Now We Are Sixty is a collaboration between my first sister, Nina, and me. I’m a writer of fiction and memoir; she’s a visual artist and graphic designer. Our 9 1/2″ x 12″ full color book pairs my short and tender works of non-fiction with Nina’s intuitive and improvisational inks on paper. Side by side, we explore our own aging and being in our early sixties, our long marriages, our history of growing up in a musical family, our violinist mother’s dementia, and the push and pull that happens between sisters. There are four of us and I’m the eldest. I live with my husband and our dog, Ella, in New Orleans, Louisiana, close to our two stepsons and eight grandchildren, but across the pond from our son, Andrew. Nina lives in Carmel Valley, California with her husband, near their two children and three grandchildren. This book is the first in a series that will navigate this new decade. It’s also a way to narrow the distance between us and miss each other less.
